Netflix to end Drive to Survive team tennis docuseries and get access to all four Grand Slams

After Netflix got Formula 1 and golf, it focused on tennis. As of the 2022 Australian Open season, the streaming service has signed deals with all four Grand Slam tournaments, as well as the ATP Tour, WTA Tour and ATP Media.

The untitled series comes from the team behind Netflix’s popular Formula 1: Drive to Survive and the just-announced golf documentaries.

“We’re excited to continue to strengthen our offering in sports programming with this behind-the-scenes documentary series,” said Brandon Riegg, Netflix vice president of unscripted and documentary series. “Tennis is enjoyed all over the world, with high-stakes tournaments on continents and athletes from countless countries. Through this historic partnership with all four Grand Slams, the ATP Tour, the WTA Tour and ATP Media, the series will be filled with rare entries and rich personal stories that are sure to attract longtime fans and new viewers alike.

The series is being produced by Box to Box Films, with James Gay Rees and Paul Martin serving as executive producers. Filming for the Australian Open is underway.

The Australian Open has made headlines over whether top player Novak Djokovic will be allowed to compete. Serb Djokovic has twice had his visa revoked by Australian authorities due to his vaccination status – the country has a very strict policy requiring visitors to be vaccinated, but Djokovic’s team have argued he was given special permission to attend.

Earlier this week, Netflix announced another series from the Drive to Survive team focused on the PGA Tour. As with that tennis series, Netflix has gained access to all four major golf tournaments.

And here is the current list, in alphabetical order, of the golfers committed to the series: Abraham Ancer, Daniel Berger, Cameron Champ, Joel Dahmen, Tony Finau, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia, Harry Higgs , Max Homa, Viktor Hovland, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa, Kevin Na, Mito Pereira, Ian Poulter, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Bubba Watson. In addition, Keita Nakajima, the world’s top amateur golfer, will take part in documentaries that chronicle his early cracks at major tournaments. Filming is ongoing and will continue throughout 2022.
