Indonesian doubles star Markis Kido dies of heart attack aged 36

Indonesian player Markis Kido is dead. The badminton international federation (BWF) announced on Monday his death, at the age of 36, in a tweet. He suffered a heart attack. He reportedly fell ill while playing badminton in his hometown, Tangerang, Indonesia.

Doubles specialist, Indonesian Markis Kido won gold at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 with Hendra Setiawan, a year after winning the men’s doubles title at the World Championship in Kuala Lumpur.

He had also won the World Cup in 2006 and gold at the Asian Games four years later, also in partnership with Setiawan.

The BWF and the Indonesian Badminton Association did not provide further details.
