BBL: Hamburg Towers celebrate record victory against Würzburg – basketball

An evening for the history books in the Inselpark in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg.

1203 Towers fans stood and clapped. After three bankruptcies, Hamburg’s basketball team managed a record victory against Kellerkind Würzburg: 113:103 (60:54) – more points than ever before in the Bundesliga!

The outstanding center Maik Kotsar (25) provided the second best performance with 30 points (and twelve rebounds). It almost went unnoticed that playmaker Justus Hollatz (20) set his personal record with 18 points in the wild offensive spectacle.

Due to the cancellation of the EuroCup game during the week, Hamburg had four days to prepare for the worst away team in the league. In addition, top scorer Caleb Homesley (25) returned after surviving corona disease.

Nevertheless, the towers struggled extremely for a quarter of an hour. Only then did they get energy through their defense and turn the game around.

“We have weeks with little training behind us,” said coach Pedro Calles (38). “You can’t just hit the switch. I’m happy for Mike. But I also expect such a performance from him if the opponent doesn’t just have a big man.”

The 2.11-meter giant could act as he wanted under the basket against the decimated guests: “Honestly, I had size advantages.”

New signing Trevon Bluiett (27) came on for the first time in the sixth minute. The all-rounder scored five points in 19:34 minutes. After four sessions with the new colleagues, however, the bond was still missing.
