Swafford wins at La Quinta, Barjon finishes 10th

Yet leader the day before, Paul Barjon finally failed to become the first French winner on the American circuit.

The American Hudson Swafford, 166th in the world, won the American Express, his third victory on the North American circuit, Sunday in La Quinta (California) where Paul Barjon, yet leader the day before, finally failed to become the first French winner in PGA. Author of a difficult last day, with a card of 73 (+1), he ended his week at -17. The rookie finished 10th and gained 67 places at the FedexCup to enter the top 125 (104th).

Swafford, who was ambushed in 5th place, three strokes behind rookies Barjon and Lee Hodges, at the start of this fourth round, stunned the competition by returning the best card of the day (64) to total -23. He managed no less than nine birdies, mitigated by three bogeys, but in the meantime finding a way to place a superb eagle at N.16.

The 34-year-old golfer, whose last victory dates back to 2020 in Puntacana in the Dominican Republic, finishes with two shots better than his compatriot Tom Hoge. Lanto Griffin, Brian Harman and Lee Hodges follow at three lengths.
