Reflecting on the Djokovic Case, Italian League Players Must Vaccinate or Leave

Tennis player Novak Djokovic has been banned from entering Australia for not being vaccinated. Bologna coach, Sinisa Mihajlovic, asked his players to obey state rules.

Corona virus cases are hitting Bologna and the team was ordered to quarantine earlier this week. The situation made the match against Inter Milan postponed.

Vaccines will likely be mandatory for Serie A players from February. In the Bologna camp, there is Nicola Sansone, one of whom refuses to be vaccinated and has already poured out his anger on social media because of the discourse on mandatory vaccines.

Mihajlovic gave his response about the discourse of mandatory vaccines for players in the Italian League. He considered the local country rules must be followed and if it is not done, the player must leave the club because it can not be played.

“He (Sansone) doesn’t want to take the vaccine, but if the rules say you have to get it, then do it, or you’re out,” Mihajlovic told Il Corrriere dello Sport.

“I will eliminate the swab test after the booster. The doctor said that with the third dose, (the COVID-19 variant) Omicron becomes like a common cold, so we have to act accordingly, stay at home until we feel fine,” he continued.

In the world of tennis, there is Djokovic who cannot appear at the Australian Open because he is not vaccinated. The world number one had previously received assurances from the organizers, but local authorities barred Djokovic from entering Australia and was held at the airport all day.

“It’s a difficult situation, for me, the wrong organisers. They should have followed the government’s guidelines and didn’t guarantee Djokovic would play. If he goes to Australia, it means there is a condition to give him a medical exemption,” Mihajlovic said of Djokovic’s situation.

“For me, Djokovic is a victim, he’s not the main cause of this mess. It’s ridiculous for a world number 1 male tennis player to be confined in a deportation hotel, even that explains the condition of asylum seekers.”

“They should respect the rules. By doing what they did, they made Djokovic an anti-vax hero.”
