Proportional gauge in the stadiums: Olivier Véran “understands the intention” but will oppose it

This is the debate that has agitated the sports world since the return of the gauges in the stadiums, while the Covid epidemic is at its strongest everywhere in Europe. Should we resort to proportional gauges, calculated in proportion to the size of the stadiums, rather than the maximum of 2,000 seats indoors and 5,000 people outdoors? The National Assembly’s law committee voted for last week in an amendment proposed by LREM deputy Sacha Houlié. “It seems fairer to us for important stadiums like the Groupama Stadium, the Vélodrome or the Parc des Princes,” he explained to the Parisian. This parliamentary procedure will allow the government to adjust to the demands of the field. “

The bill will now be discussed in public session on Monday, in the Assembly. And the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, should oppose it. This is what he explained in an interview with JDD. “I understand the intention: why impose the same limit on 5,000 people outdoors at the 50,000-seat stadium and the smaller stadium? But I would remind you that only very large places are affected today by this system of limitation. If we entered into a logic of measurement, we should include, for consistency, all establishments welcoming the public, even small ones, which are not concerned today. And good luck counting the square meters! We would quickly enter a gas factory. “

Olivier Véran and the government remain on their line of intelligibility and “simplicity”, as he explains. “We made the choice of simplicity and a decision applicable without delay, for the shortest possible time. As soon as the sanitary conditions are right, we will however be able to return to proportional gauges, as we had already done in the spring, at the end of the third wave. “
