Hamburg (dpa / lno) – Hamburg’s police chief Ralf Martin Meyer has announced savings in his authority. The officers are not affected, but vacancies among the police employees should not be filled so quickly, NDR 90.3 reported on Monday. “We already have what is known as a failure rate (…), which will be expanded a little,” Meyer told the broadcaster. Officials would then have to take over the tasks of guarding objects. It is also planned to give up a rented office building on Überseering in City Nord by 2024. The officials should work more in the home office.

When the tax estimate was presented in November, Senator for Finance Andreas Dressel (SPD) stated that the Senate was facing difficult budget discussions for 2023 and 2024. It was of great importance to limit growth in personnel expenses and room rents and also to keep one or two projects behind to move back. According to the NDR, the German police union expects savings of up to 50 million euros by 2024 for the police and fire brigade.
