David Douillet, former Olympic judo champion and Minister of Sports, proposed on RMC to stop the French working day earlier during the 2024 Olympic Games, so that they can better follow the event.

Stop working early during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, this is the idea proposed by David Douillet on RMC. The former Minister of Sports and Olympic judo champion is inspired for this measure by the one currently in progress in Cameroon, on the occasion of the African Cup of Nations football.

Organizing country of the CAN, Cameroon has decided to release students and civil servants from 2 p.m., in order to provoke a passion for competition. Indeed, the matches played in the afternoon were not really successful and the stadiums remained empty. With this measure, the country hopes revive the fervor of its population.

David Douillet believes that applying this measure would allow the French to better follow the Olympic Games in France, and could even give “a huge boost to sports culture“. The 2024 Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, the students would therefore not be concerned, but the former sportsman envisages that amenities could be made in the world of work.

With more time to focus on the event, the French and especially the Parisians, might feel more committed and concerned by competition. For David Douillet, an experience such as the Olympic Games is an opportunity to raise awareness “that sport can be the backbone of a life and that we can have a great life thanks to that in terms of health and social cohesion“.
