NBA commentator Glenn Consor apologizes after offending Kevin Porter Jr (Rockets)

An American television commentator on Thursday apologized for an on-air blunder, making an inappropriate and offensive comparison about Houston player Kevin Porter Jr, who had just offered his team victory over Washington ( 114-111).

Glenn Consor, analyst for NBC Sports Washington, was under fire on social networks when he said: “Kevin Porter Jr, like his father, pulled the trigger at the right time.”

But the Houston player’s father, Bryan Kevin Porter Sr, spent more than four years in prison for the shooting murder of a 14-year-old girl in 1993. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter and in 2004, in a another case, he was shot and killed in Seattle.

Consor explained in a statement released on social networks Thursday that he had in fact committed an unintentional blunder.

“Let me take this opportunity to offer my sincere apologies to Kevin Porter Jr, his family and the Rockets organization for the comments I made during last night’s game,” Consor wrote.

“I mistakenly believed Kevin was the son of former Washington player Kevin Porter and was unaware that the words I chose to describe his winning shot would be hurtful in any way. I contacted Kevin to apologize personally and I hope to be able to speak to him soon, ”he concluded.

Before Consor explained, the star LeBron James was one of the first to rise up on Twitter. “Sorry, but this is not going to pass!” How insensitive can you be to say something like that? Get out, man! There is no place for you in our beautiful sport! “
