Heracles suspends Rai Vloet after new facts: ex-player STVV was under the influence and drove more than 200 km/h when he caused a fatal accident | Eredivisie

EredivisieEx-STVV player Rai Vloet (26) is immediately suspended by Heracles Almelo. On Friday, new facts came to light about the accident that killed a 4-year-old child. The attacking midfielder drove way too fast on the night of November 13 to 14 and had way too much alcohol in his blood. The parents of the deceased child shared their story: “Is he sorry?”

For a long time it was unknown what happened that November night, how much alcohol Vloet had drunk and how fast he was driving. But the facts have now come out and are fierce. Vloet got behind the wheel with way too much drink and also drove way too fast. The breath test showed that Vloet recorded 1.18 per mille, and further research shows that he drove no less than 203 kilometers per hour, De Telegraaf reports. He crashed into a car that was carrying a family with two children. The eldest child died.

Vloet remained out of the picture for two months, until Monday last week. The club wanted to wait for the judge’s verdict and let him train. To the dismay of his own fans, he already made playing minutes in the Eredivisie game against NEC the following Saturday. This caused so much commotion and anger that Heracles decided on Thursday not to include Vloet in the match selection. He was still allowed to train.

Last night it was announced that he is no longer welcome there either. The player is immediately suspended after the new facts have surfaced. The board and management of Heracles Almelo are “deeply shocked”. “As it has become known to us today, Vloet not only possibly drove too fast that night, but also drank too much. Both are absolutely unacceptable. In the weeks and months after the accident, Vloet stated several times to us as an employer that he had not driven faster than the permitted speed limit of 130 kilometers per hour, and had not drunk more than two alcoholic drinks. On the basis of this incorrectly provided information, Heracles Almelo has until now taken all its decisions in good faith and as a good employer,” said general manager Rob Toussaint.

“If we as a club had known this essential information earlier, we would of course have decided otherwise, in the interest of both the victim’s family and everyone else involved, and never let Vloet train and play along. We deeply regret that the family also has to experience this, in addition to the traumatic accident that happened to them. The club will contact the family again in the near future. Our thoughts continue to go out to them.”

Parents haven’t heard anything yet

Steffin and Sanne Roos, parents of the deceased Gio, say that they have not heard anything from Rai Vloet, while the club said this week in Tubantia that their player “has made personal contact with the family in order to express personal condolences”. According to his lawyer, the police were informed that they wanted to contact him. Vloet did express his condolences on a video, but the parents indicate that they think that he is mainly the victim himself.

The parents want to hear from Vloet that he is sorry. “Does he have feelings, does he regret? We won’t get Gio back with a prison sentence, but whatever punishment he gets, it’s never enough for us.” The player has not yet given a public interview – except for the video on the club’s site.
