The small island of Guadeloupe remains firm in its intentions to celebrate the 1st Caribbean Games 2022, as its authorities have acknowledged.

The multi-sport event is scheduled to take place between June 29 and July 3. However, the COVID-19 pandemic means that this Caribbean party has its organizational complexities, which is why it is necessary to make budget adjustments.

According to JIT, important meetings are taking place these days to agree on crucial issues and send security messages to the countries called to participate.

Among those appears the COVID-19 protocol, with respect to which the idea of ​​forming a bubble and requiring all participants to be vaccinated seems to prevail.

So declared to Around The Ring the president of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees, Brian Lewis, who also expressed his confidence that Panam Sports will support the event, including financially.

The budget for the event was originally estimated at 2.5 million euros, before the pandemic, but has since been reduced to 1.5 million euros.

Accommodation and organization of competitions are the basics, and although it seems little money, Lewis maintains that “we are in a good position in terms of budget”.

Among the sports called are athletics, cycling, judo, netball, futsal, 3×3 basketball and aquatics.

Entries are capped at 878 athletes and officials, but initial interest has already surpassed the 1,000 mark.
