Franz Wagner has been named Rookie of the Month at the Eastern Conference for his strong performance in the North American professional basketball league, the league announced.
The 20-year-old from Orlando Magic had an average of 19.5 points in December, more than any other newcomer to the league. In addition, Wagner had not only set a personal best with 38 points in a 110: 127 defeat against champions Milwaukee Bucks at the end of December, but also among all this year’s rookies in the league. The native of Berlin also outbid the record held by Dirk Nowitzki for German NBA newbies.
In December, like the entire season, Franz Wagner was in the starting line-up of Magic in every game and achieved around five rebounds, three assists and one steal per game in an average of 34 minutes. He is the first German to be named rookie of the month in the NBA.
