Englishman Wade and Scot Anderson in the semifinals

Dhe top players James Wade (England) and Gary Anderson (Scotland) have reached the semi-finals of the Darts World Cup. “The Machine”, as Wade is called, clearly beat his compatriot Mervyn King 5-0 on Saturday at the start of 2022 and thus reached the round of the last four for the fourth time at the most important tournament of the year.

Wade will face the winner of the match between defending champion Gerwyn Price from Wales and England’s Michael Smith in the semifinals on Sunday (8 p.m. at Sport1 and DAZN). Price and Smith meet on Saturday night.

The former European champion Wade has played a decent tournament so far, but has also benefited from a favorable table and lucky circumstances. Third-round opponent Vincent van der Voort from the Netherlands could not compete against Wade after a positive corona test. Other favorites like Dimitri van den Bergh (Belgium) or Joe Cullen (England) were eliminated before a possible duel.

Former champion Anderson is also still represented in the tournament. The Scot prevailed 5-2 against Luke Humphries from England in the second game of the day. For the “Flying Scotsman”, as Anderson is called, it is the seventh participation in a World Cup semi-final after 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2021. Anderson was crowned world champion twice, last year it was a 3-7 defeat against Price in the final.
