If Dirk Nowitzki forged his legend on the floor of the Mavs, he was also revered by fans thanks to his exemplary behavior away from the field. The ex-interior was not the type to make the headlines in the celebrity press, being quite discreet in private. Towards the end of the 2010s, however, he had to bend this rule, despite himself. The reason ? His girlfriend at the time, Crystal Taylor and whom he was about to marry.
In 2009, the latter was thus handcuffed to the German’s home, with several arrest warrants against her. These included theft and violation of probation, which had already been prosecuted and jailed in 1999. Police said Taylor was also guilty of several scams, unpaid payments and forging documents. She then obtains a new sentence, this time of four years in prison:

The worst thing about this affair is that she would have also taken advantage of the confidence of the NBA champion to steal him, notably stealing credit cards from him. To top it off, she claimed (wrongly) to be pregnant with him during his trial, claiming alimony… A drama that had seriously affected the Big Dipper at the time. Asked by ESPN, Dirkules had shown himself to be cash:
I still want to have a family, but the wounds have to heal first. However, I still want to have a few little Dirks later. But it won’t be easy to win my heart.
Fortunately for him, the n ° 41 did not have to wait long. In 2012, a year after the Texan coronation, he married the Swede Jessica Olsson, sister of footballer Martin Olsson. Much less tumultuous than Taylor, it allowed the German Bomber to find inner peace, and above all to finally be able to start a family as he had always wanted. She is now president of her husband’s foundation, which helps underprivileged children, especially in the Dallas area.
With Jessica, Dirk Nowitzki has had three children so far: Malaika, Max and Morris. The legend of the Mavs is a fulfilled man and his retirement now allows him to spend more time with those he loves. Everything would have been very different with Crystal Taylor!
