Dion Cools returns to Belgium to keep Zulte Waregem in 1A | Jupiler Pro League

“There is no six-week preparation, so newcomers have to be ready to use right away,” says general manager Eddy Cordier. So Zulte Waregem approached Dion Cools, who has 106 matches experience at Club Brugge.

The right back with Malaysian roots won two league titles with blue-black, before moving to Danish FC Midtjylland in 2020. But now he opts again for an adventure on the Belgian football fields.

Timmy Simons and Davy De fauw, who are at the helm of Zulte Waregem after Francky Dury’s resignation, have played at Club Brugge with Cools. That undoubtedly influenced his choice.

“I see myself as a modern right-back who likes to help the team both defensively and offensively,” says Cools.

“Zulte Waregem is a warm club that, despite the lesser results of recent months, always strives to achieve healthy ambitions and hopefully I can be a part of that.”

Cools is under contract in Denmark until June 2023 and will be rented until the end of the season without a purchase option.
