Novak Djokovic’s lawyers have presented this Saturday a document before a federal court in which they affirm that the Serbian athlete obtained the vaccine exemption after being infected with coronavirus in December. The world number one tennis player also requested to be sent to a facility where he could train before the Australian Open.

Three days after Djokovic was detained in the oceanic country, his lawyers presented a document clarifying that “the date of the first positive covid PCR test was December 16, 2021.”

In this way, the athlete would have achieved an exemption to the vaccine. With this justification, the lawyers try to reverse the rejection of the entry visa to Australia, so that it can participate in the competition that starts on January 17.

After the cancellation of his visa, on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, for not complying with the sanitary conditions that are required of those who enter Australian territory, the Serbian was sent to a detention center in Melbourne. The tennis player now asks to be sent to a suitable place to prepare for the competition.

A new hearing will take place on Monday before a Melbourne judge, although it is not clear that the process will culminate in time for the Australian Open, which takes place between January 17 and 30, which Djokovic has won nine times.
