The Mayor José Antonio Serrano, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor Mario Gómez and the councilors Carmen Fructuoso, Paqui Pérez and Enrique Lorca, this morning visited the Calle Mayor, in El Palmar, which has been opened to pedestrians during the day today to welcome different free activities.

Serrano has announced that “next February Cabezo de Torres will join this initiative by closing Calle Moreno Cortés to road traffic on the first Sundays of each month.”

During the morning, El Palmar has hosted different activities for the whole family, such as wooden games, a workshop for making the gratitude jar, a children’s parkour workshop, making mandalas, creating bookmarks with recycled elements, and an animation and dance workshop.

This initiative has been joined by sports associations of the districts such as the table tennis and badminton club and social associations such as the Youth for Change association, the association of the Women’s Center and the Spanish Association Against Cancer.

Thus, there are already three districts -El Palmar, Espinardo and Cabezo de Torres- that restrict the circulation of vehicles on their main roads to offer their neighbors free activities, as is the case on the Gran Vía de Murcia.

The Mayor has encouraged the presidents of Municipal Boards to adhere to this initiative “since, in this way, in addition to raising awareness about sustainable and healthy mobility, and offering a new outdoor entertainment space, promoting the presence of pedestrians in public roads”.

It should be remembered that the ‘Be the protagonist of Gran Vía’ campaign is underway. The aim of this action is that all those who so wish can act or carry out activities on the Gran Vía de Murcia when it is closed to traffic.

For this, the email address [email protected] has been opened where interested parties can send a summary of their skills so that they can be evaluated and scheduled on the different Sundays.
