Burkina Faso with Bande and Traoré through to eighth finals Africa Cup

Burkina Faso has qualified for the eighth finals of the Africa Cup, following the example of host country Cameroon. A draw against Ethiopia (1-1) was enough to secure second place.

Burkina Faso played with Hassane Bande, who went from Mechelen to Ajax for 8.5 million euros in 2018 but never managed to break through in Amsterdam, in the rush hour. The 21-year-old attacker of NK Istra 1961 (leased by Ajax) received assistance in the vanguard of former Ajax and Vitesse attacker Bertrand Traoré, who currently plays for Aston Villa.

Burkina Faso lost the opening game to Cameroon (2-1) and did win the second game against Cape Verde (1-0). The already seeded Cameroon played a draw against Cape Verde (1-1) on Monday afternoon, which therefore still has a chance of reaching the knockout phase. The four best numbers three also advance to the eighth finals.

For Cape Verde, born Rotterdammer Garry Rodrigues (Olympiacos Piraeus) scored shortly after the break. It was the equalizer, because Vincent Aboubakar had put Cameroon at 1-0 before half-time.
