Athletics and chess in a new day of School Sports in Albacete

Albacete hosted the celebration Of the two disciplines, which brought together some 700 schoolchildren

The 2021/2022 School Sports Calendar organized by the Provincial Council of Albacete, under the agreement signed with the General Directorate of Sports of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha, lived a new day in Albacete during this past weekend .

On Saturday the Winter Athletics Championship was held, organized with the collaboration of the Athletics Federation of Castilla-La Mancha and the Albacete City Council, through the Municipal Sports Institute. The competition took place in the Athletics Tracks of the University.

More than 500 young athletes gathered to compete in the different tests scheduled by the Organization, both in the male and female categories. Modalities such as 500 meter dash, 1,000 meter, 1,500 meter, 5,000 meter, high jump, long jump, pole vault, weight, discus and march were held.

On Sunday it was the turn for the Chess Championship, celebrating the Local Phase of Albacete. About 170 schoolchildren participated in this School Age Sports competition, in a test organized thanks to the collaboration of the Castile-La Mancha Chess Federation.

The Vereda Pavilion hosted this event that included the categories of Children, Cadet and Promotion. Throughout the morning the different games were played, under the Swiss System of competition.

The School Sports Calendar will bring new appointments next weekend. Chess is scheduled to be held in Albacete, badminton in El Bonillo and cross-country in Albatana.
