AS Monaco: Ex-Bayern coach fired! What Niko Kovac apologized for to the players – football

Niko Kovac (50) has been sacked as Monaco coach. In the league, the team is sixth behind expectations, but has won three of the last four games and is only four points behind in second place in the table.

Almost obvious that the expulsion could not only have sporting reasons!

As the “L’Équipe” reported, the ex-Bayern coach is said to have used a “military tone” and “constant shouting” to ensure that many players no longer felt comfortable in the dressing room. On Friday, before his final expulsion, Kovac is said to have apologized for it.

In front of the assembled team, he is said to have spoken especially in the direction of the players who had particularly injured his toughness in dealing. Kovac had defended this style on the grounds that he had been brought in the previous year to get discipline in the team.

In terms of sport, this had borne fruit. Monaco ended the season in third place behind champions Lille and PSG, and had previously played an important role in the title race for a few months.

Now many players are said to have been very surprised given the club’s consistent move to fire Kovac. It has not yet been decided who will be the new coach. The top favorite to succeed Kovac is the Belgian Philippe Clement (47), who is currently under contract with Club Bruges.

The next league game is on the program for the team around DFB star Kevin Volland (29) next Sunday (5 p.m.) at table neighbors FC Nantes.
