Vandals from the Petriccio baseball field. The club: “We ask for cameras and more controls”

“Anger, frustration and the feeling that vandals do not stop even in front of the risks for the safety and health of the little ones”: these are the words with which Irene Bonazzola, President of the Siena Baseball Club, denounced yet another act of vandalism to the youth baseball field located inside the “Sarajevo Children’s Park” at Petriccio.

“On Sunday morning – says Bonazzola – our Adviser and technician Antonio Rodriguez, who had gone inside the plant, informed us that he had noticed signs of break-in in the fence, which was bent, evidence of attempts to climb over to enter the structure, as well as literally uprooted (on the side facing the Park Multipurpose Track). He also told me of having seen, on the pitch, pieces of glass scattered in large quantities, a circumstance already recorded during a training session in the Under 12 category two weeks ago. This represents a serious risk for the safety of the users of the structure and in particular for children, a gesture without logic “, continues Bonazzola, who reported the incident in a PEC addressed to the Municipality of Siena and to the operational unit of the Municipal Police , following the complaint already formalized on 8 September.

“In my heart we knew, given the precedents, that sooner or later it could happen again – continues the president – but then when it happens we feel very sorry. We do not understand why one should enter a sports facility, perhaps at night, in the dark, for the sake of damaging. This, however, will not stop our business. We will rearrange everything, because after more than forty years, baseball in Siena has had its own home. Let’s not give up! “.

The Sienese baseball club has renewed its requests to the Administration. In particular: 1) closing of the gates of the Sarajevo Children’s Park at night; 2) installation of video surveillance cameras; 3) more controls.
