Michoacán.- Francisco Alexis Cervantes Guerrero, a professional basketball player, and a taxi driver who was transporting him, were reported missing in the border area of ​​Michoacán and Jalisco.

Óscar Cervantes Guerrero, brother of the player of the Libertadores de Querétaro team, said that Alexis was in Michoacán for a few weeks to play a tournament and explained to THE UNIVERSAL that since there was no Mexican league, Alexis and other athletes were hired by sports promoters to reinforce other teams.

He explained that in this case, Alexis was hired to play in the municipality of Tancítaro, where his contract ended last Monday, so he would return home on Tuesday.

Óscar Cervantes Guerrero said that the alert for him and his family that something was wrong with Alexis was on December 24. He mentioned that the basketball player had told them that he was returning in time to spend the holidays with his mother and brothers, but he did not arrive.

Óscar began the search from a distance and it was that he learned the details prior to the disappearance of his brother.

He said that his brother boarded a passenger bus bound for Guadalajara, Jalisco, from where he would fly to his homeland, Guasave, Sinaloa.

The 32-year-old’s plans changed as the bus had to return due to road blockades and violence in the municipality of Tangamandapio.

He explained that the athlete’s decision was to take a taxi to travel safer and therefore boarded one at the bus terminal in the municipality of Los Reyes.

Family members indicated that the player and the driver, named Marcos, had the last communication when they were on the Sahuayo-La Barca section, near the Jamay community, Jalisco municipality of Ocotlán.

Later, Óscar Cervantes said, nothing was heard from them. So far they have not asked for ransom if it was a kidnapping.
