These burning finishes that marked the history of F1

DECRYPTION – Two world championship co-leaders before the last grand prix? Until this year, Formula 1 had only known him once (Emerson Fittipaldi and Clay Regazzoni in 1974). Seeing the suspense stretch until the last meeting is, on the other hand, common in the history of the discipline.

This is the 30e Times in 72 seasons that the title will be awarded at the twilight of the season, this Sunday in Abu Dhabi. 1964: the coronation of Surtees and his blue Ferrari

At the heart of the Swinging Sixties, three British, Graham Hill (BRM), John Surtees (Ferrari) and Jim Clark (Lotus), compete for the title in Mexico. A fourth man, Lorenzo Bandini, will play the referees in favor of Surtees, his teammate. With 35 laps to go, the Italian first collided with Hill, then 3 and virtually champion. The forced double stop of the Londoner does the business of Clark who rushes in front for a second consecutive coronation. But an oil leak two laps from the end shattered the Scots’ hopes and again temporarily caps Hill.
