Charleroi has started the return round in the Jupiler Pro League with a victory. In a white-colored Mambourg, the Ostend over the knee with a late goal from Loïc Bessilé. In the standings, the Carolo’s jump to place 4 for the time being.

Charleroi – KV Oostende in a nutshell:

  • Key moment: Ten minutes before the end, Charleroi finds the gap. Bessilé hits the mark on a cross from Zorgane and the home team no longer relinquishes that lead.
  • Man of the match: He doesn’t buy anything for it, but Guillaume Hubert did play a hell of a game in his hometown. In the first half he stopped Nicholson from a goal 3 times and after the break he did the same with Gholizadeh’s breakthrough.
  • Remarkable: Ostend continues its dramatic outdoor series unabated. However, it started the season well with 2 away victories, but since then it has only been able to collect 1 point in 7 away games.

Nicholson misses the opportunity

Charleroi had the best start on a snow-covered field. Nicholson came alone in front of Hubert after just 5 minutes, but with a poor finish, the striker missed the huge opportunity.

A huge opportunity was also wasted on the other side. Ambrose shook off Andreou and could only go after Koffi, but suddenly doubt set in and the chance was gone. At Charleroi, the danger kept coming from Nicholson. After a nice chest check, it took out at close range in the turn, but Hubert was once again in the way.

Around the half hour, the third time was the right time for Nicholson. Or so it seemed for a while. On a pass from Kayembe, he now finished it neatly, but his goal was rightly disallowed for offside. Although that cost the VAR through the
snowfall takes time.

Shortly before half-time, Nicholson was allowed to try again after a wonderful pass from Morioka, but Hubert won again. It was a bright spot in the final phase of the first half, in which the level of play deteriorated with the condition of the field.

Bessilé takes care of the decision

Charleroi shifted up a gear at the start of the second half. After Medley’s missteps, Gholizadeh scored from a sharp angle and when the Iranian was able to go for goal a few minutes later, Hubert kept Oostende upright once more.

Ostend only woke up around one o’clock. Capon didn’t hesitate for a moment when he suddenly got room for the shot just outside the box, but Koffi prevented the 0-1 with a nice save. Even when Ambrose showed up in front of him after Andreou mistasted, the goalkeeper stood firm.

Ostend grew in the match. With a nice rush through the center, Bäztner forced a corner and then saw his deflected shot hit the post. The home side had another good run.

But in the final phase it was Charleroi that struck. Bessilé was given too much space on a cross from Zorgane. Hubert was able to touch his header, but not enough to avoid the opening goal. Enough for the 3 points, although Medley came very close to 1-1 in the final with a lovely kick.
