The course of the match

Wolves dominated Liverpool in the first 15 minutes. However, both teams were equally struggling in the final third of the field.

The first meaningful opportunity of this match was finally born in the 29th minute. Trent Alexander-Arnold received a high cross on the right side of the box, then continued with a first-time shot but just flew over the Wolves crossbar.

Furthermore, Liverpool re-press Wolves. Thiago Alcantara sent an accurate pass aimed at Mohamed Salah. However, the Wolves defender was able to clear the ball before Salah attempted a finish.

Liverpool are getting closer to the first goal. Sadio Mane’s partnership with Alexander-Arnold ended with a cross at the far post. Diogo Jota’s header went wide. The score is still 0-0.

Wolves tried to counterattack. Adama Traore crossed the guard down the right flank then crossed a ball forward that went a little too long. Raul Jimenez could not reach the ball which was easily caught by Alisson.

Dangerous attack from Liverpool. Andy Robertson brushed down the left flank and crossed in a cross, which Romain Saiss cleared before Salah found the net.

In the midst of its dominance, Wolves’ counter-attack almost led to a goal. A low cross from the left flank headed into the path of Adama Taore. However, the ball first touched Alisson before it could be secured.

The first half is over. The score is still 0-0.

After halftime, Liverpool again threatened Wolves. Salah picked up a corner with a volley, the ball found Thiago in the six yard box but his finish just headed straight for goalkeeper Jose Sa.

Liverpool missed a golden opportunity in the 60th minute. The Wolves defense made a fatal mistake when Jose Sa, who had already come out of his nest, even knocked down his own teammate.

The ball was controlled by Diogo Jota, who only had to strike the ball into the empty net. However, Wolves centre-backs Max Kilman and Conor Coady held on to the goal line, Jota seemed to lose his cool and his shot from the front of the six-yard box hit Coady instead.

Ten minutes later, Wolves again showed a solid defense. Mo Salah’s one-two collaboration with Mane ended with Mane in a one-on-one position with Jose Sa. However, Mane’s flick could be pushed aside by Jose Sa at the right time.

Liverpool attack ran aground again. In the last six minutes, Alexander-Arnold’s cross headed for Divock Origi. But Kilman cleared the ball before Origi.

A golden opportunity again missed Liverpool. From a corner kick situation, Fabinho’s header was accepted by Mane. However, his shot from inside the penalty box can still be countered by Jose Sa.

Liverpool continues to pound Wolves. Fabinho’s bait was received by Mo Salah in the penalty box. The Egyptian footballer continued with a shot, which unfortunately was still too weak for Jose Sa to easily anticipate.

Liverpool’s efforts finally paid off. Liverpool broke the deadlock in the dying minutes of injury time to take a 1-0 lead.

A through ball was met by Mo Salah, who brushed down the right to end with a pull-out for Origi. The last named player turned his body and then released a low shot that penetrated the Wolverhampton goal.
