The doubles of Clara Azurmendi and Bea Corrales fall fighting against the seventh in the world in another intense day in Huelva 2021

The third day of the Huelva 2021 Badminton World Championship left another intense day full of emotion. This time the Spanish accent was put on by the women’s doubles of Clara Azurmendi and Bea Corrales, who had advanced to the second round without having to play after the withdrawal of the Indonesians they were going to face.

Azurmendi and Corrales faced a major challenge, as they faced the Japanese Matsuyama and Shida, seventh in the world ranking, and they jumped on the track ready to give everything in search of surprise and emptied themselves on the track to try to achieve it. However, the Asians managed to take the initiative and prevailed by 21-9 and 21-13.

The seed number 1 of the competition Tai Tzu Ying (Chinese Taipei), left the Russian player Evgeniya Kosetskaya without option, and beat one of the best European players in two sets: 21-10 and 21-14.

Undoubtedly, one of the individuals that has kept the public in suspense until the last moments, has been the duel between Mia Blichfeldt [13] (Denmark) and Neslihan Yigit (Turkey). Blichfeldt managed to overcome the match after losing the first set (21-17) and turn the score around in the last moments of the third set against a combative Yigit that let slip a 20-19 in his favor.

The vast majority of the men’s doubles modality matches of the day have taken place in three sets, showing the high level of the players from the different delegations around the world. Undoubtedly, one of today’s men’s doubles was featured in the Europeans’ duel: Fabien Delrue – William Villeger (France) enthusiastically celebrated their victory after a tight match against the English Ben Lane – Sean Vendy [13]. The French duo closed the match with a final score of 21-19, 12-21 and 21-15.

One of the unexpected surprises of the day came almost to the end of it. In the mixed doubles, the English duo Marcus Ellis – Lauren Smith, who started as seed number 6 of the competition, were defeated by renewed and forceful Kyohei Yamashita – Naru Shinoya (Japan). The Japanese pair sentenced their meeting with the score in their favor: 21-16, 18-21 and 21-15.
