The “1st Universal Baseball Japan Championship” will be held on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at Nippon Institute of Technology (Miyashiro Town, Saitama Prefecture, hereinafter referred to as “University”). “Universal baseball” is a sport that uses a baseball board so that anyone can play equally regardless of age, gender, or disability. At the Japan Championships, eight teams from all over Japan, from Hokkaido to Hiroshima, will compete online remotely.

“Universal Baseball” is a sport invented by Horie Vehicle Denso Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) in the wake of an encounter with a boy who loves baseball and attends a special school elementary school (patent No. 6729956). It is a baseball game where people with and without disabilities can fight equally, using a baseball board that is one-twentieth of the baseball field and reduced to about 5 meters on both wings. Instead of throwing the ball, it turns on the turntable. Unique ingenuity has been applied, such as hitting the ball with a bat that swings easily by pulling the string.

Until now, “Universal Baseball” has held classes and events at special schools, facilities for people with disabilities, elementary schools, etc. all over Japan, but due to the Corona disaster, it is difficult to hold such classes and events. Therefore, the Department of Information and Media Engineering of our university (the Department of Data Science will be in charge from next year) has conducted research and development of a system that can remotely perform “universal baseball” in collaboration with Horie Vehicle Denso Co., Ltd. With this system, you can enjoy “universal baseball” even in Corona, and you can play games between schools in remote areas. Therefore, this project is to connect schools all over the country online and hold a remote national convention.

On the day of the event, Yuji Furuta * 1 will be the MC and Fukue Akaogi * 2 will be the Miss Uguisu as special guests.

* 1[Yuji Furuta]: The first Rakuten Eagles Stadium DJ and currently active in various scenes such as the narrator of TBS.N Star. Widely active as a sports DJ narrator and MC with a profound yet gentle voice.
* 2[Mr. Fukue Akaogi]: Representative of Uguisu Promotion, who arranges for Miss Uguisu, official scorer, and host of the tournament ceremony in baseball games. In fact, he himself is making an announcement at the stadium.
