Tennis: Dominic Thiem waives the Australian Open

The Melbourne finalist and US Open winner of 2020 has planned his comeback for the clay court tournament in Cordoba, Argentina, which will begin at the end of January, and will therefore skip the Australian Open.

Thiem missed the second half of the season due to a wrist injury. He fought his last serious fight in June at the lawn tournament on Mallorca.

Thiem explains: “I feel good again, my wrist is in optimal shape and I can train normally again. But I will not take part in the Australian Open in Melbourne, a city that I love and with which I have great memories. Memories of unforgettable matches in front of great spectators. I’ll miss the Australian Open fans, but I’ll be back in 2023. ” (SDA / red)
