Ampo Ordizia released a statement yesterday to fire its player Kawa Leauma, who died as a result of an accident suffered in the Netherlands when he was concentrating with the Spanish team. The letter is entitled ‘Rest in peace, Kawa’ and says: «From Ordizia Rugby Elkartea, respecting the times that have marked his family, we want to express the deep pain we feel at the loss we have suffered with the death of Kawa, and we also express our sincere condolences to those who are closest to him.

An excellent player and a better partner and person, he was always involved in the club’s tasks, being an example for all of us who are part of Ordizia Rugby. He knew how to give his best and his attitude earned him the respect and affection of all the people he had by his side.

Finally, we want to thank all the messages of love and support that we have received. Thanks to both the Dutch and Spanish Federation of Rugby, but especially to the manager of the Spanish Federation, José Manuel Pérez ‘Sevi’, for being by Kawa’s side at all times and helping us with everything we needed. And to finish, we also want to give a mention to Leiden University Medical Center, where Kawa has been in the best hands he could be.

We’ll miss you, Uso.

Rest in peace, Kawa.

On a photo of the player and under a black bow, there is also a bertso in Basque. «If I had to look for a word / it would be humility, / if you asked me another / it would be joy. / Immense heart / that does not fit in the chest, / that unites us all / singing a MILI MILI.

Inside the field, a warrior / that you do not want to be in front of, / outside, a brother, / that is fidelity./ Although he has left us / we will never forget him./ A new star has been lit./ Take care of us, friend » .

The club cries: «The void you leave between us is terrible. We love you, Kawa.
