Petronas Yamaha boss admits he was wrong to recruit Rossi

JEREZ, KOMPAs.com – Head of the RNF Yamaha Team, Razlan Razali, said that signing Valentino Rossi when the team was still with Pertonas was a wrong move.

Even though the team actually wanted to keep Fabio Quartararo until 2023. Even though it was acknowledged that Quartararo was even more shining with the factory team, he won the 2021 MotoGP world title.

“To be honest, I shouldn’t have taken Valentino. Personally, I was skeptical until Valentino was on the third podium with Fabio and Vinales at the second Jerez GP in July 2020,” said Razlan quoting Crash.net, Sunday (5/12/2021).

“My mind went ‘OK, maybe he can do it’,” he said.

As is known, the 2021 season is Rossi’s last season as a MotoGP racer. The season is also called the worst in his career, the holder of nine world titles.

Throughout 2021 Rossi failed to score a podium finish, which was his first and only season since he became a Grand Prix driver in 1996.

Now Razlan heads WithU Yamaha RNF Racing. Next season the team will be strengthened by two riders, namely veteran rider Andrea Dovizioso and rookie Darryn Binder.
