On Tuesday, the basketball players of Ogre won the team of Valmiera Glass / Vidzeme University College in the first game of the quarter-finals of the Latvian Cup in Užava. The Ogrenians were superior with a score of 105: 92 (24:25, 32:17, 21:26, 28:24). This was the first Latvian Cup game in which the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League teams met.

Kristaps Dārgais was the most productive in Ogre unit with 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, Renārs Magone scored the most points – 17 points, Rinalds Sirsniņa scored 13 points and Rihards Zēbergs scored 14 + 7 in these statistics.

In Valmiera, Ingus Jakovičs scored 21 points, Derius Klark had 17 points, Jānis Kaufman had 16 points and eight assists, but Klāvs Dubults scored eight points and eight rebounds. The answer game will take place on December 28. It has already been reported that on Monday the basketball players of the University of Latvia defeated Līvāni in the first game with the result 121: 48.

In the quarterfinals, “Liepāja” or “Jelgava” will face Ventspils, with one more match left. Last year, after a break of 26 years, the Latvian Cup in basketball was resumed, which was stopped in the autumn due to Covid-19 and did not resume later. This year, 21 teams from three leagues applied for the tournament. Four teams took part in the first round, but the Pafbet Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LIBL) teams will meet in the fourth round. The final is scheduled for February. The last time the Latvian Basketball Cup was won was in 1994, when SWH / “Brocēni” won the trophy, winning the “Bonus” in the sum of two games.
