The search for a new sports director is over!
According to BILD information, VfB does not use an external solution. And thus fulfills the request of sports director Sven Mislintat (49). This Thursday, but no later than Friday, Stuttgart’s supervisory board boss Claus Vogt wants to officially announce this decision.

As the successor to Thomas Hitzlsperger (has announced his departure), several external names have recently been traded for the sports board. Among other things, Joti Chatzialexiou (45), sporting director of the national teams of the DFB, was a candidate. Chatzialexiou knows VfB supervisory board Rainer Adrion (67) very well from working together at the DFB. But now the VfB control committee has agreed not to fill the post of sports director with an external person.
There are several reasons for this.
First: With the three directors Mislintat (sport), Markus Rüdt (organization) and Thomas Krücken (youngsters), VfB is well positioned in sport. E.an external solution costs. And in the financially dramatic situation of the association (BILD reported) it would not be possible to mediate.
Another reason: with an external solution, the Supervisory Board would have risked a break with Mislintat. The sports director – who has risen to become the most powerful man at VfB due to his successful work – attaches great importance to the previous freedom of design. With a new sports board this freedom would have been restricted.
It is now very likely that Mislintat will prematurely extend his contract by one year until 2023.
The top favorite as the new CEO is Cologne’s managing director Alexander Wehrle (46).
