NBA, Kyrie Irving speaks: “I respect the decision of the Nets, I was not ready for the consequences”

As mentioned in the previous hours, the return of Kyrie Irving on the NBA parquet is now close.

I Brooklyn Nets have in fact accepted his reinstatement, effectively making him a part-time player: not being able to enter the sports halls of the city of New York according to the current regulations put in place by the mayor Eric Adams, Irving will be able to take the field for the Nets only in the away matches of the own team.

A huge step forward compared to the stalemate at the beginning of the year, which took place with the first team training session with teammates. Opportunity for the reporters to ask him a few questions regarding the initial decision by the franchise to remove him from the roster:

“It’s a decision that I understand and respect. I had to take a step back to try not to take it personally, to try to assess the case from their perspective and put myself in their shoes, their comrades and the whole organization. I understood their position when they told me ‘If you are not fully vaccinated, you will not be able to play for us’

I knew what the consequences would be, even if I was not in the least ready for it. At the beginning of the season, my idea was to be a full-time, full-time player to have fun with my teammates and represent the best basketball in the league. But unfortunately it didn’t happen like that “

Kyrie continues, explaining how he managed to keep in training in recent months away from basketball:

“Today was the first opportunity together with other professional players. I am grateful to all those who have helped me in these weeks to keep fit, while I played in various gyms between college and middle school. I tried to train in a confidential manner, with the intention of making the best of it for my return.

It was tough and I resisted for a long time, but nothing is like being in this context and playing with the best in the world. This is my place, where I have worked my entire life. Today in the gym it was like being back on the first day of school. I missed all of this “
