Napoli has put the mediocre topper to his will during a visit to Milan. After an early goal by Elmas, a young Milan searched in vain for the equalizer. That seemed to come in the final phase, but the VAR rejected the 1-1.

In the 5th minute, Eljif Elmas cleverly jumped on a corner and headed the 0-1 past Milan goalkeeper Maignan at the near post. Napoli could easily hold onto that lead until the ultimate final phase.

In that final phase, substitutes Saelemaekers and Mertens were also on the site and they saw the VAR claim a leading role. Milan, who had been without ideas for some time, pumped high balls into the box and the equalizing goal came from a scrimmage at one of the balls.

But in that scrimmage, an offside Giroud would have made a move towards the ball. Kessié’s 1-1 was disallowed, to the dismay of players, staff and fans of Milan.

Thus Napoli held their ground and jumped next to Milan in second place. The defeat and 1 in 6 of Milan also means that Inter crown themselves as autumn champions.
