MLB: Montreal Baseball Group to meet Valérie Plante on Tuesday

Groupe Baseball Montreal, which is trying to bring a Major Baseball team back to Montreal, will have an important meeting with Mayor Valérie Plante this Tuesday about the project for a stadium in Peel Basin, radio station 98.5 FM has learned.

It is at this time that Pierre Boivin, president of the investment firm Claridge, will present the project plan to the mayoress.

Their reaction could have a significant impact on the rest of the process.

The daily Press revealed last week that Stephen Bronfman had requested a grant of several hundred million dollars from the Quebec government for his project to build a new stadium.

The project would be worth a total of around a billion dollars according to La Presse and the Bronfman group would ask the government of Quebec for a contribution in the form of grants and “forgivable” loans.

Bronfman’s group plans to move the Tampa Bay Rays to Montreal in shared custody, a scenario never before seen in the world of North American professional sport.
