Agustin Rogel, on loan since January 2021, to Estudiantes de La Plata, has been extremely successful, to the point that he has been one of the best central defenders in the Argentine league this year. The player’s will is to stay at this club, but negotiations for a permanent transfer are ultimately complicated.
Estudiantes has until December 31 to exercise the purchase option of 1.2 million euros, but will then have to assume 100% of the salary of Rogel, while TFC has paid half so far. Martin Gorostegui, the president of Estudiantes, spoke on this subject for the South American media Sky Sports : “Our intention is that he continues with us. A good part of his salary was paid by Toulouse, which therefore facilitated his loan. We have an ongoing negotiation with his club regarding the terms of the transfer and another with the player regarding his contract. He is guaranteed money if he returns to Toulouse which it is impossible for us to match.”
Argentinian star Juan Sebastian Verón, now vice-president of Estudiantes, outbid and made it clear that the problem was indeed financial: “Agustin Rogel has an important contract abroad and it is normal that he wants to enforce it. (…) We will see if this can be resolved.”
Rogel is currently on vacation in Uruguay. If no agreement could be reached before the end of December, the central defender will return to training in Toulouse on Monday, January 3, like Ruben Gabrielsen (read below).
