Mbappé, Modric, Pogba… The typical team of players at the end of their contract

The Figaro sports department will deliver its eleven players to you at the end of their contract next June. Among them, four French.

The Guardian

It is not in the post of goalkeeper that the great players at the end of their contract accumulate. Two names should be noted, however. The first, which integrates our typical team of free elements in June, is none other than that ofHugo lloris. After ten years of good and loyal service at Tottenham, the 2018 World Champion could well leave Spurs this summer. Unless Antonio Conte, the new coach of the London training, is active to extend it. “We will have time to talk about him. I consider him an important player for Tottenham, for his experience and because he is first and foremost a good goalkeeper. He has been playing for many years with Tottenham and he is still very invested in this club“, Confided the Italian technician at the beginning of December about the ex-Niçois.

The second gatekeeper worth mentioning is André Onana (Ajax Amsterdam). Suspended for long months for doping, the Cameroonian, a time announced close to Olympique Lyonnais last summer, did not hide his intention to change air in 2022. Many formations, like the Inter Milan could get busy from early January to hire him for next season. Other names are to be noted among the last ramparts, such as that ofIgor Akinfeev (CSKA Moscou), Sergio Asenjo (Villarreal), Benoit Costil (Girondins de Bordeaux), Samir Handanovic (Inter Milan), David ospina (Naples) or even Mattia Perin (Juventus Turin).

The defenders

Notice to those concerned, many high-level defenders are – at least for the moment – free next June. Among those which evolve in the axis, one of the best known is Antonio Rudiger. The German Chelsea, decisive in the quest for the Champions League in 2020-2021, could however see his contractual situation change in the coming weeks since he is still in negotiations with the Blues to extend his London adventure under the orders of Thomas Tuchel. At his side, we find one of his compatriots: Niklas Süle. Discussions between the imposing Mannschaft defender and Bayern Munich are also difficult and it would not be surprising to see him leave the Bavarian club at the end of the season. There is no doubt that the great European teams are taking a close interest in this issue. Andreas Christensen (Chelsea), Jason Denayer (Olympique Lyonnais), Luiz Felipe (Lazio Rome), Matthias Ginter (Borussia Monchengladbach), Chancel Mbemba (Porto FC), Alessio Romagnoli (AC Milan) and Dan-Axel Zagadou (Borussia Dortmund) should be cited.

To the right of the defense, César Azpilicueta is the most famous player to be at the end of his contract. The Spaniard would be courted by FC Barcelona but would still favor an extension to Chelsea, where he arrived in the summer of 2012 from Olympique de Marseille. He was preferred to Juan Cuadrado (Juventus Turin), Serge Aurier (Tottenham), Noussair Mazraoui (Ajax Amsterdam) or even Djibril Sidibé (AS Monaco). On the other hand, our choice fell on Marcelo. The Brazilian, who arrived at Real Madrid in January 2007 after playing for Fluminense, has been losing ground for several years. His White House adventure seems to be coming to an end. Sead Kolasinac (Arsenal) and Faouzi Ghoulam (Napoli) could also be on the market next summer, if they don’t extend and commit to another formation by then.

Midfielders

On paper, the midfielder has something to dream of football fans since he is composed of a Franco-Croatian doublet with Paul pogba and Luka Modric. The future of the French is still unclear. In recent weeks, rumors have said everything and its opposite. Suddenly the Red Devils would be ready to offer him an XXL contract, another his free start at the end of the year would already be recorded. One thing is certain, however: if the 2018 world champion were to be available at the end of next June, many big clubs would have to scramble to secure his services.

Regarding the 2018 Ballon d’Or, the situation seems simpler. His extension with the Merengues would only be a matter of time. The chances of seeing him in another jersey in 2022-2023 are therefore slim. Franck Kessie, one of the major elements of AC Milan, could have joined his typical team. Others, like Marcelo Brozovic (Inter Milan), Cesc Fabregas (AS Monaco), Remo Freuler (Atalanta Bergame), Boubacar Kamara (Olympic Marseille), Lucas Leiva (Lazio Rome), Sergi Roberto (FC Barcelona), Corentin Tolisso (Bayern Munich), Arturo vidal (Inter Milan), Axel Witsel (Borussia Dortmund), Denis Zakaria (Borussia Mönchengladbach), are worth mentioning.

Wingers

The right side of our attack is animated by Ousmane Dembele. So far, and despite weeks of negotiations, the French still has not extended his contract with FC Barcelona. However, despite an approach from Newcastle, the ex-Rennais would prefer to continue his Catalan adventure rather than change air next summer. Xavi Hernandez, the Blaugrana technician who appreciates his profile, would use all his weight to keep it. Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), Federico Bernardeschi (Juventus Turin), Angel Di Maria (Paris Saint Germain), Adnan Januzaj (Real Sociedad) are also coming to the end of their contract.

On the left is Lorenzo Insigne which had our preference. The love affair between the European champion and Napoli could well end this summer since the negotiations relating to his possible extension would be difficult; the two camps would indeed be too far apart as regards his salary claims. He would be followed by several teams, such as Inter Milan or Toronto FC, in MLS. Todd Cantwell (Norwich), Cyle Larin (Besiktas), et Ivan Perisic (Inter Milan) are also likely to join a new formation in more than six months.

The center forward

What a center-forward duo! In front, we logically find Kylian Mbappé. The future of the 2018 World champion has been in the news for months. Presumably, barring a completely unexpected reversal of the situation, the French international should leave the Rouge et Bleu at the end of his contract to join the club of his dreams, Real Madrid.

In our typical team of free players, he is associated with Paulo Dybala. Unlike the Parisian, the Argentinian’s future should be part of the same club after the summer of 2022. His contract extension is dragging on but should indeed take place in the coming weeks. Other big attackers could also panic the market: Sardar Azmoun (Zenit Saint-Petersburg), Andrea Belotti (Torino), Alexandre lacazette (Arsenal), Divock Origi (Liverpool) et Luis Suarez placeholder image (Atlético Madrid), to name a few.
