Leicester to meet City-Liverpool in 48 hours, Rodgers: It’s not fair!

Liverpool

Leicester City must meet Manchester City and Liverpool within 48 hours. The Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers called this tough schedule unfair for his team.

Leicester like English teams at the end of the year have a busy schedule. For the Boxing Day match, Leicester must face a tough opponent at the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (12/26/2021) night WIB, namely defending champions Manchester City.

It’s not an easy task, of course, for Leicester to beat City who are still on fire, armed with eight consecutive wins in the Premier League. Leicester’s test was not only that, because two days later, there was another tough opponent waiting at the King Power stadium.

It is Liverpool who will travel to Leicester, the team that eliminated them in the quarter-finals of the English League Cup two days ago on penalties. This schedule benefits Liverpool who have more rest time.

Because, the Liverpool vs Leeds United match which was supposed to be held on Boxing Day, was postponed due to the explosion of COVID-19 cases in the Whites camp. It was even more difficult at the end of the year for Leicester, which had been plagued by injuries to a number of its core players.

Even Leicester had also postponed two consecutive games because of a similar problem. Rodgers also complained about the year-end schedule which was not in his team’s favor.

“When you have the best squad, then this period will be very busy of course. But against Man City on Sunday and Liverpool on Tuesday, it’s clearly not good for the condition and health of the players. But, that’s the schedule for the next two weeks and we just live it,” said Rodgers in Eurosport.

“And if it has to be like that, then we will try to be as competitive as possible, like the substitutions we did tonight (against Liverpool in the Premier League Cup) and others.”

“We’re trying to stay competitive. It doesn’t look like many City players are out and unfortunately they are like that. Then they didn’t play on Wednesday either, so they benefited.”
