“When I was little I had many people who told me that I was not going to succeed in tennis. Slovenia is a very small country where there is not much tradition with tennis. I received a lot of criticism but I told myself to keep trying to try show everyone they were wrong with me. I rose to juniors very quickly. When I was 16 years old, I won the Orange Bowl and then decided I wanted to make the move to the professional circuit. I went to the professional circuit and it was not too bad. I wanted to finish high school in the best way. Basically, I studied for all the exams like normal students during tournaments and it was quite exhausting. I remember I played a tournament and during the game I was thinking about the history syllabus. Afterwards after losing that game, I decided to change schools. I wanted to get a good education, but I decided to put tennis first for a while. “
– He decided to stop to finally dedicate himself to his studies:
“I got to the top 200 really fast. All the tournaments I played were on clay courts and then I played a pretty good season. I played Wimbledon against Serena in the second round and it was a pretty close match. After that tournament I decided to stop for a while. to finish my studies well. I dedicated myself to studying simply and it was very hard because I was very close to the top 100. After taking all the approved subjects, I started playing and it was a bit more complicated because I had a slightly lower ranking than when I stopped. Then came the times of COVID and everything became more uphill. “
