I’ll be back stronger, assures fans angry Michael van Gerwen

Dutch dartsman Michael van Gerwen was eliminated from the World Cup in the worst possible way – he could not start the match at all due to a positive coronavirus test. The most successful dartsman of the last decade is upset, but plans to return even stronger.

The three-time world champion played only the third round at the current championship. The first was free, in the second he defeated Chase Barstow 3: 1, but he did not enter the third. Chris Dobey goes on without a fight, as Mighty Mike had a positive test on the covid-19, so he couldn’t reach the target.

“I’m really disappointed, confused and upset about how the World Cup ended for me. I would never expect such a result because I thought I did everything I could to avoid it. I don’t even have any symptoms.” wrote the third player in the world rankings on his twitter.

The 32-year-old Dutchman will not add a fourth world title, but even though negative emotions now predominate, he has given his fans a positive message: “Fans, I’ll be back stronger!”

Michael van Gerwen is not the first player to finish the world championship this year. Another Dutchman, Raymond van Barneveld, had a positive test before Christmas shortly after losing to Rob Cross. After the Christmas break, their other compatriot Vincent van der Voort could not start the match with James Wad due to a positive test.

Englishman Dave Chisnall also had to resign due to a positive coronavirus test on Wednesday.

The Czech Roman Benecký also played at the World Championships, fighting for the promotion to the decisive leg:
