Should the transfer from Ferran Torres to FC Barcelona still fail, the Catalans allegedly already have a plan B.
FC Barcelona allegedly have a plan B in hand if the intended transfer of Ferran Torres does not materialize. Like the Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported, the Catalans have chosen Hakim Ziyech as an alternative.
The 28-year-old Moroccan usually does not get beyond the role of the joker at Chelsea FC, in the current Premier League season Ziyech was only six times in the starting line-up. However, Ziyech received significantly more playing time in the Champions League. In four of the six group games he was on the field at play, but only played once for the full 90 minutes.
Ziyech oscillates between the wing and the center
At Chelsea, Ziyech usually acts as the right part of the front row of three in Thomas Tuchel’s 3-4-3 system and often switches between wing and headquarters. Barcelona are urgently looking for such a player to provide some relief for Memphis Depay on the offensive.
However, the clear priority remains with Torres. The 21-year-old is naturally active on the right wing, but played almost exclusively as a kind of “false nine” at Manchester City this season before breaking his metatarsal in the Spaniards’ Nations League game against Italy in October drew. This could force him to watch until mid-January.
Despite the injury, everything recently indicated a winter move for the Spaniard to Barcelona. As a transfer fee for the player, who is still tied to the Citizens until 2025, around 50 million euros are under discussion, which Barca cannot pay all at once. The exact details of the financing are to be negotiated between the two clubs in the coming weeks.
