Kiel (dpa / lno) – The rower Frieda Hämmerling, judo fighter Dominic Ressel and the handball players from THW Kiel are Schleswig-Holstein’s athletes of the year 2021. The state sports association of the northernmost state announced on Tuesday. “They are all excellent ambassadors for sport and role models for the many talented young athletes in our country,” said LSV President Hans-Jakob Tiessen.
Frieda Hämmerling finished fifth with the German double foursome at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Dominic Ressel even won the bronze medal there with the mixed team. The THW handball players celebrated their 22nd German championship in the summer. The selection was made through an online vote and a jury decision.
