This double bug happened at the ninth hole, a par five where his second shot failed in the water.

Berger also scored an eagle, after birdies on his first four holes.

In the 18th, with water to his left and a headwind, he missed a lot to the right, then his approach shot came short. A five-foot putt got him off with a boguey.

Ancer collected five birdies in seven holes on the second nine.

At 67, we find Webb Simpson, Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas. Simpson settled the last seven greens in one stroke each, for a crop of five birdies.

Koepka was close to the top before a boguey in the 13th, followed by five pars.

Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau, Patrick Reed and Viktor Hovland signed a card of 68.

Morikawa would become the world’s highest ranked golfer with a win.

The British Open champion also got engaged on Tuesday.

” I am very happy. It’s going to be a special date for us, said Morikawa, also a PGA Championship winner in 2020. It’s going to be a week to remember, no matter what happens on the golf front. “
