Batshuayi draws with Besiktas

Besiktas did not get any further than a 1-1 draw on Friday evening in the opening game of the fifteenth match day in the Turkish Süper Lig, visiting Kasimpasa, the penultimate in the standings.

In the Istanbul derby, the visitors took the lead after twelve minutes via Can Bozdogan, but Besiktas swallowed the equalizer from Umut Bozok in the 82nd minute. Six minutes later, Batshuayi was taken to the side. The 28-year-old Red Devil could not convince this season at his umpteenth loan from Chelsea. Charleroi now also on Standard without Jules Van Cleemput

After Union, Cercle Brugge and Anderlecht, Jules Van Cleemput will now also miss Sunday’s Walloon clash at Sclessin. The central defender of Sporting Charleroi is still too much hindered by an ankle injury and according to coach Edward Still it is now almost impossible that he will make it to the advanced game on Friday 10 December at Ostend. Brutal bad luck for the 24-year-old from Antwerp, who, since matchday six at Beerschot, made steady progress in a defense with three. His absence is expected to be covered by Loïc Bessilé. The 22-year-old Togolese, who came over on a free transfer from Girondins Bordeaux in July, didn’t look out of place against Anderlecht last weekend.

Neither can be used on Standard: Karim Zedadka. The Frenchman made a wrong move during training and sustained a strain in the groin.

Sunday is the 60th Standard – Charleroi. Of these, the Carolos only won eight. Their last win over Sclessin dates back to 2008-2009. It became 1-2 with a goal in the final phase by ‘duck thrower’ Habib Habibou. The current T2, Frank Defays, was captain. Thierry Siquet, uncle of the (for a little while) Standard player Hugo, the coach. Only Zulte Waregem managed to beat Standard at home that season. The Rouches of Laszlo Bölöni became national champions after jump-offs against Anderlecht. (AR)

15,000 tickets for the top match between Dortmund and Bayern sold out in half an hour

All available tickets for the top Bundesliga match between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich on Saturday have been sold in half an hour. The club of Red Devils Axel Witsel, Thorgan Hazard and Thomas Meunier announced on Friday that the 15,000 tickets, which were only allowed to be sold, went over the virtual counter within 30 minutes.

Borussia had initially put 67,000 tickets on presale, but had to cancel them again due to the new corona rules. After all, football clubs in the Bundesliga are not allowed to receive more than 15,000 fans at matches, the regional authorities and the German federal government decided on Thursday.

In more detail, 30 to 50 percent of the stadium capacity may be used in Germany for outdoor matches, with a maximum of 15,000 fans. Mouth and nose masks are mandatory and the so-called ‘2G rule’ applies, which means that only people who have been vaccinated against the corona virus or who have recovered from it are allowed to attend matches.

Horst Eckel, last West German world champion in 1954, passed away

Horst Eckel, the last remaining player of the then West German football team that won the 1954 World Cup, has died at the age of 89. The German Football Association confirmed this on Friday.

The Kaiserslautern right winger was the youngest player on captain Fritz Walter’s squad, who narrowed in the final to win 3-2 against big favorite Hungary in what became known as the ‘Miracle of Bern’.

The two-time German champion (1951 and 1953) changed clubs only once: from Kaiserslautern he moved to SV Röchling Völklingen in 1960. After his career as a player, he studied art and sports and worked as a teacher at a secondary school from 1973.

The team scored 81 points from 36 matches and is 11 points ahead of Flamengo, which finished second. Flamengo won the championship in 2020 and 2019.

Atletico Mineiro has thus secured the title with two games left in the competition. After a bad start to the season, the club dominated from matchday 15.

Flamengo, on the other hand, suffered the third blow in five days: no league title, no Copa Libertadores, the South American counterpart of the Champions League – they lost the final to Palmeiras last Saturday – and no more coach, after Renato Portaluppi Monday was fired.

China changes national coach after disappointing results

China has appointed a new national team manager after the resignation of Li Tie, the former Everton midfielder who was criticized for poor results in Qatar’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Li Xiaopeng, the coach of first division Wuhan FC, is the replacement.

Li Xiaopeng, a former midfielder, was named national coach after “long consultations”, the Chinese Football Association CFA said in a statement. China’s chances of entering the World Cup in Qatar have been seriously jeopardized after a poor start to the current qualifying round. After losing 3-2 to Saudi Arabia in October, China drew two games (1-1 against Oman and Australia). China is currently fifth in a group of six teams. Only the best two teams qualify directly for the World Cup.

Li Tie was also not uncontroversial in extra sports and was accused of abusing his position as national coach to promote commercial products on his social media. The 44-year-old former football player had been at the head of the national team for two years, succeeding Italian Marcello Lippi.

China plays all its matches abroad due to the corona restrictions on its territory. The Chinese will face Japan in their next qualifier on January 27.
