Minimum Wage Increase to $500,000 Pesos and its Impact on State Benefits in Chile

According to the law of gradual increase in the minimum wage that became effective in May 2023, it brought with it a new salary increase, reaching the figure of $500,000 thousand pesos. Amount that was committed by the Government of President Gabriel Boric.

It is worth mentioning that this value will depend on the variation experienced by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) between July 1 and December 31, 2024.

Consequently, as of January 1, 2025, the latest increase in workers’ monthly income could be reflected.

State Benefits

The increase in the minimum wage will register an increase in different economic benefits provided by the State. Two of the main contributions are the Family and Maternal Allowance and the Grace Pension.

The Family Allowance It is a monthly contribution that is delivered to the middle and vulnerable sectors of the country depending on the family burden and the income received by the beneficiary.

Likewise, the Maternal Allowance It is a subsidy that is aimed at pregnant workers and workers who have pregnant spouses. The benefit must be requested only from the fifth month of pregnancy, and the payment is made retroactively throughout the pregnancy process.

Finally, the Grace Pension It is a benefit that aims to improve the quality of life of people in situations of social vulnerability. This pension is delivered by the President of the Republic for life or for a specific period of time, and is divided into three categories: Workers over 18 years of age and under 65, workers under 18 and over 65 and for non-remuneration purposes.
