The figures run until June 30, 2021. The incoming transfer of Romelu Lukaku, for around 115 million euros, was therefore not yet included in the calculations.
The calculations do include the 110.8 million euros that the European campaign (with Champions League win) raised last season.
Coach Thomas Tuchel’s team finished fourth in the Premier League last season. Chelsea lost the final to Leicester City in the FA Cup.
All in all, Chelsea suffered a loss of €173 million, more than €50 million more than the season before.
The main reason for the mega loss is the corona pandemic. The club lost millions because of the matches without an audience. On top of that came high transfer expenses.
