The badminton club, affiliated with the FFB, organized an open day at the IME in Venerque. This establishment welcomes children and adolescents with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and / or autism spectrum disorders. Under the supervision of their educators, Floriane Pech, Eudes Rubin and Daniel Robert, there were about ten of them following the wise advice of Karine Dio. This section educator specializes in sport, a passion that she also practices at TOAC as a National player. This experience, which had the support of the league and the 31 Occitanie committee with the presence of a leader Marcel Maurel, will be repeated during the next holidays. With this organization, the new office made up of Mélanie Samain (president), Florence Blanc (secretary) and Jérôme Vitiourine (treasurer) wants to go further in this area. The creation of a Handi-Bad is effective. After Blagnac, Castanet will be the second club in the Department (affiliated with Handisport) to offer this activity, the sole objective of which is access to sport. Every Thursday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Karine is present at the Jean-Jaurés gymnasium to welcome interested future players.
The new office took over in 2020 after the shutdown following the pandemic. “We are the covid team”, joke these volunteers whose concern is to bring this sport to life in the town. The demand is very high. “We refused members for lack of slot hours. The town hall was very attentive but the current structures do not allow a greater availability of hours”, regrets the president. With 110 members including 35 young people aged 7 to 17, the club is saturated in all categories (singles, doubles, mixed). A mini-bab and beginner chicks section has been created, the meeting point is Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The planning is complete with the organization of five tournaments, a record number.
