Arturo Reyes leaves Junior’s technical direction

Junior will have another coach in 2022. Arturo Reyes, who had a contract until December next year, will not continue as rojiblanco helmsman.

EL HERALDO learned that Samarium received the news of his departure on Thursday afternoon at the club’s administrative headquarters, from President Alejandro Arteta.

Reyes’ results were acceptable, despite the fact that he found a poorly armed team without a clear idea of the game after the departure of Luis Amaranto Perea. He raised the overall performance of the group, individually recovered players like ‘Cariaco’ González and Edwuin Cetré, empowered a youth like Hómer Martínez and got the team into the semi-final home runs of the League on the penultimate day, without significant anguish.

Although he did not have a striker, he managed to get the team to improve their scoring production by including Cetré as a striker.

Before being hired by Junior, Reyes had been working as a coach for the Colombia U-20 team. He had a contract until December 2023 and he resigned to fulfill his dream of directing Junior.

Most of the rojiblancos managers supported the continuity of Reyes as a coach, but Fuad Char, one of the club’s shareholders, was not entirely convinced and was the one who most insisted on the need to hire another coach.

Paradoxically, Reyes had declared on Wednesday, after the 1-1 draw against Atlético Nacional: “I count 100% with the support of Fuad Char.” This Thursday it was shown that there was no such support.

It is striking that Perea, a coach who was not from the heart of the club and did not have great merits or the experience to direct the ‘Sharks’, they gave him more working time than Reyes, who did have a past at the club as player, technical assistant and coordinator of the minor divisions.
