Another three green town halls in Berlin: Quite normal historical – Berlin

It looks revolutionary, what is happening in three neighboring western Berlin districts, for the first time green city hall boss: inside everywhere: Jörn Oltmann was elected in Tempelhof-Schöneberg in November, now followed by Maren Schellenberg in Steglitz-Zehlendorf and yesterday evening Kirstin Bauch in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf (Update: Current report here).

But is “revolutionary” the right term? Even the figurative meaning (according to the Duden, a “profound change; revolutionary, previously valid, existing or similar repressing, fundamental innovation”) does not really describe what is currently going on in the three town halls. Firstly, the Greens have long been established (for some a bit too established) and secondly, the district “changes of government” took place here without the stress that occurs elsewhere, including in Berlin, on such occasions.

The dignity with which the previous district mayor and future city councilor Cerstin Richter-Kotowski (CDU) appeared is exemplary in times of unnecessarily heightened political disputes. The new (partly old) management teams also work in a harmonious, hands-on manner in the other two districts.

Now please make good politics with this positive drive, this mixture of new and tried and tested: climate protection, health, education, living, mobility, digitization, diversity, inclusion …
