“Zemgale” / LLU scores eight goals and wins confidently in the OHL game

“Zemgale” / LLU on Thursday won the “Optibet” Hockey League (OHL) game and strengthened in the second position in the overall standings. The Jelgava team beat the Hockey School “Rīga” (HS “Rīga”) 8: 2 (2: 1, 3: 1, 3: 0) in the away game.

Although in the first third the Rigans played one goal after 0: 2 and maintained a minimal deficit (1: 2), in the second third “Zemgale” / LLU scored three goals in the first ten minutes. After the fifth goal, the Rigans replaced the goalkeeper, but it did not help, and in the rest of the game the Jelgava team scored three more goals, including the second goal in the minority.

The goal of Jelgavnieki was protected by Rihards Cimmermanis, who repulsed 22 of 24 opponents’ shots. Rihards Roķis scored two goals in the minority in favor of “Zemgale” / LLU, but Artūrs Ozoliņš stood out with three assists. The defenders – Jānis Bullītis and Mārtiņš Krišs Krūklītis – scored in the Rigans team.

In the overall ranking, “Mogo” / LSPA takes the first place, which has accumulated 25 points in 13 games, but in the second place is “Zemgale” / LLU, which won 20 points in 13 matches, and “Liepāja” finishes the best three, winning 14 points in 11 games. Last season’s champion team “Olimp” / “Venta 2002” took the fourth position with 12 points in 11 games, followed by HS “Riga” with nine points in 13 games. Riga’s “Prizma” is in the sixth place with three points in nine matches, but Daugavpils “Dinaburga” is in the last place, which has not won any points in ten matches.

Last season the OHL Cup was won by Olimp / Venta 2002, but in the regular season the victory was celebrated by Zemgale / LLU. The first Latvian hockey championship took place 90 years ago.
